On January 19, 2020, John Slee Sr., loving husband and father of three children, passed away peacefully at his home in Bishop, CA at age 66.
John was born on March 15, 1953 in Santa Monica, CA to his parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Slee. He graduated from Bishop Union High School in 1971. He received his AA degree from Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA a few years later. John moved back to Bishop where he started a portable welding business called “John’s Portable Welding.” In 1981, he opened his muffler and welding shop, “John’s Muffler and Automotive” that he owned and operated successfully for 34 years. His goal was always to provide quality service with honesty.
On February 11, 1978, John married the love of his life, Cindy Gail Slee. They raised two sons, Patrick and John Jr., and one daughter, Kimberly.
John had a passion for collecting antiques. He enjoyed spending time with family camping at Grant Lake and fishing on the pontoon boat. He loved to Jeep around the beautiful Bishop countryside and traveling to new places with his wife. John was known for his sarcastic sometimes ornery sense of humor to some and his big tender teddy bear heart to others.
John was preceded in death by his father Kenneth and his mother Elizabeth. John is survived by his wife, Cindy, his son, Patrick and wife Melissa, his son John Jr. and wife Shirley, his daughter, Kimberly Ward and husband Dave. His two grandsons, John Vernon Slee and Thomas Ward; his four granddaughters, Sage, Sadie, & Chloe Slee, and Kayla Maes. He is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth Slee, Jr., Susan Slee Fasching, Randy Slee, Katie Slee Mangan, William Slee, and Betsy Slee Troop, and their families.
A special thank you to Ruby Allen at Hospice of Owens Valley for her loving care and support during John’s final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Brune Mortuary for their tender and professional care. As well as, a warm thank you for the overwhelming love and support we have received from family and friends during this difficult time. We appreciate you all.
A “Celebration of Life” Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1100 W. Line St, Bishop, CA 93514. A light lunch reception will follow.
