In Loving Memory of Robert Alois Poelvoorde
Robert A. Poelvoorde passed away on January 8th, 2021. A resident of Bishop, CA for 55 years, he was 86 years old, Bob was born August 1934 in Ithaca, New York to Alois and Yvonne Poelvoorde. He was one of six siblings. When Bob was a young man, he decided to move west and embarked on a new journey, landing in Wilmington, CA in 1955. In 1966, he moved to Bishop, CA. Bob’s occupation was a plant manager in the field of mining perlite and diatomaceous earth for 34 years in Basalt, NV. Bob was elected president of the union organization to represent his coworkers for the company of which he worked during his tenure. Bob was an active member of the Bishop Elks for 45 years.
Bob’s favorite pastime was hooking up his boat and taking the love his life, Adelle Poelvoorde, his wife of 50 years, and heading up to South Lake or Sabrina to catch a mess of fish. He loved to plan fishing, hunting and pack trips with his three sons. He was a true outdoorsman. Bob also loved to bowl, loved country music, attending concerts, playing cards, and occasionally pulling on those one-armed bandits at the casinos. Most of all, he loved being around his family.
Bob will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, his powerful testimony, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile, and his willingness to come at any time of day or night to help any family, friend or neighbor in need.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring wife of 50 years and longtime caretaker, Adelle; his children Robert Poelvoorde and Leta Poelvoorde (wife); Dale Poelvoorde and Melanie Poelvoorde (wife); and Jeff Poelvoorde and Jodie James, and their respective families, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sister, Judy Troutner (91 years), known to most as “Sis,” and his brother Bud Poelvoorde (88 years).
